The color forecast is in… It calls for spring days with Dusk Blue skies, emerging Tender Shoots sprouting up around with an occasional reflection of a Grayed Jade cloud in the sky. Much like farmers turn to the Farmers Almanac for some clues to the coming growing season, Artists can look to sources like Pantone for what to expect in color trends.
Color trends have an effect on the art that is bought and sold and hung in private homes. Every year prominent sources release their predicted color forecast for the upcoming season. The factors that drive the colors considered are current fashion trends and are fueled by what is selling. Many interior designers look to the predictions to create palettes that will be seen by the public in store windows and on magazine covers. These trends make their way into the subconscious and spread throughout our culture.
This spring the colors are muted greens and blues with pops of rich red and yellow. Dark blues shades act as an anchor.
Although there is nothing forcing visual artists to use these predicted colors, it could be profitable to take inspiration from them. Creating with a color palette that is harmonious with the current color trends could be the key to getting your piece out of the studio and into someone’s living room.
